We are sorry to hear that David Eric Shedden Dearle (F44-49), who was born on 1 October 1930, died on 17th October 2020 on the Isle of Wight.

He was a student at Bradfield College in the 1940s (from 1944 to 1949) and was a member of Hillside House. After completing his National Service in the Gunners, he went on to study History at New College, Oxford.  He spent his working life teaching, mostly Latin and History.  He ended his career in education as Headmaster of Kings House Preparatory School in Richmond-upon-Thames. 

He had two sons and a daughter with his first wife, Anne.  He married his second wife, also Anne, in 1986, and after retiring in 1989 they lived for many years in Eastbourne where he became an adviser with the Citizens Advice Bureau, a reader for the talking newspaper for the blind, as well as running a very successful history group for the U3A.  He and Anne moved to the Isle of Wight in 2013 to be near family.  He died in St Mary’s Hospital on the island.

He had followed his father Norman Burrell Dearle to Bradfield and was also joined by his brother Anthony Dearle (F 36-41) who was also a student in the 1930s.
