Major Reginald Piers Alexander de Berniere-Smart (known as Piers) died peacefully at home on 14th March, 2020 aged 96. Devoted husband to the late Jean; beloved father to Charlotte, Louis ( D 68-72) and Suzannah and treasured grandfather (Bumper) and great grandfather.

Explanation of photos - The top photo is of Piers as a young officer. His daughter said he'd love to be remembered like this! The one below was taken in 1935. He is on the left (without the gas mask) - already in Army uniform! He would have been eleven at the time so probably a year before he started at Bradfield. He joined the Army as soon as he could.
